Gazing up into the darkness I saw myself as a creature driven and derided by vanity and my eyes burned with anguish and anger.

I had two burritos tonight at the Taco Bell in Hafnarfjordur.

I ate the bean burrito first. It tasted like colors: gold, and green, and red, shooting across the sky.

I ate the spicy chicken burrito second. Oh, smákaka! For a moment, I could imagine what it would be like to think without words, to think with pure understanding–images flickering through my mind and reflecting perfectly the rules that govern distant stars, rotating on their axes, and binary galaxies nuzzling up against one another. What playful shimmering dolphins!

I held the last bite of my burrito in my mouth the entire ride home on the #1 bus. Thirty minutes later, it was just as good as new (if anything, the flavor was more complex, tangy, cosmic). Taco Bell, don’t ever leave me.

    dear taco bell lover,
i’ve been searching for a taco bell in europe or germany for almost a year now.
now i’m reading your words and the question comes up whether there’s still a taco bell in iceland or not, since your entry is from nov 2007.
i hope you reply and have positive news for me :)

    thank you so much,

    josie

  3. Fine web! Maybe you should try to monetize it with http://tiny.cc/05mrc Forget ebay or adsense. Regular 10-15% commision, great tools, wordpress plugins, API…

  4. the title is from james joyce’s araby, but “burritos tonight at the Taco Bell “? what’s that got to do with the title ?
